COVID Testing in Staten Island, NY
In the NY and NJ areas, COVID-19, the coronavirus, is still a public health concern, and we can follow it with updates from the CDC, the WHO, leading healthcare agencies, major media networks, and our local/state healthcare officials. Chai Urgent Care can answer your questions about the virus, and we’re able to provide curbside COVID testing in Staten Island, NY.
How can I get COVID testing?
Chai Urgent Care is providing COVID assessments and testing for patients with the mild symptoms of infection, like fever, dry cough, and tiredness, but if you’re experiencing symptoms, please follow the instructions below to help ensure our other patients, our staff, and you aren’t at risk of infection.
If you don’t have symptoms, you can come into our clinic, we’ll give you paperwork to finish in your car, and then we’ll provide the test in your car. If you do have symptoms, then please call us from your car, and we’ll provide further instructions. Also, please remember to socially distance, wear a mask, and wash/sanitize your hands. You can call our clinic or book a phone appointment or virtual visit by calling us.
How should I prepare for my visit?
Please make sure to bring your insurance with you. If you don’t have insurance, bring us your driver’s license and social security number, as these items may help you qualify for free testing. Please remember to wear a mask to keep yourself and everyone else safe. Also, please keep in mind that testing is provided at our clinic’s curbside if you require it.
Is there an out-of-pocket cost for the test?
There usually isn’t a cost to the patient, but in some cases, your co-pays may apply. At Chai Urgent Care, all major insurances and Medicare are accepted, and it’s common for insurers to cover 100% of the cost of any testing you need. If you don’t have insurance, you may qualify for free testing. To qualify, please bring us your driver’s license and social security number.
What kind of test is done?
The common test for the virus is a nasal swab test. This test is able to tell whether you currently have the virus, and the test is instant, so we can provide it very quickly. There is a rapid test available that you may have heard of, but because it’s limited in supply, it is generally kept for patients who really need it, like very sick or recovering patients.
If you previously had the virus or believe you did, you may want to get an antibody test, as this can indicate the presence of antibodies in your system, and these antibodies are helpful to researchers. This test is for patients who don’t currently have symptoms.
When will results be available?
With the nasal swab test, it will take about two to three days until you get results, and we’ll call you once we have your results available. During those two to three days, please remember to socially distance, wear a mask in public, and wash/sterilize your hands regularly. If you’re symptomatic, you should consider isolating yourself to protect your family, friends, and others.
